Tutors

The Council has certified tutor trainers and conducts two training sessions per year (spring and fall). Volunteers are recruited to participate in the training sessions totaling 12 hours of class work over a two-day period. Each person successfully completing these two-day training sessions will become certified to teach both the Basic Reading and ESL (English as a Second Language) programs. The Laubach Method of teaching reading is used.

Volunteers wanting to become tutors need NOT have any prior teaching experience.

All materials are provided free and there is no charge for the training. Please call the office to register for the next tutor training sessions.

In cooperation with other groups of volunteers and Hagerstown Community College, we are working together to improve adult literacy in the community.
